How Strain Guard Works

A shore power connector was designed to carry current, not to carry a cord. Strain Guard puts the cord’s weight where it belongs — on the side of the vehicle instead of on the pins.
No tools. No wiring. No new electrical connection. It works with the inlet and the cord you already own.

Strain Guard cradles the connector and supports the cable behind it. Their own weight holds the device against the side of the vehicle, so the load travels through Strain Guard to the coach wall instead of through the connector pins.

Nothing clips on. Nothing locks. Nothing gets wired in.

There is nothing to fail and nothing to update.

1. Connect your Power Cable

Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Plug in as usual, and secure the locking ring per your manufacturer’s directions.

2: Install the Strain Guard Device

Cradle the connector in the device. Support the cable behind it. Let it rest against the vehicle. Secure the velcro fastener.

3:     Time to Relax

That’s it. The cord’s weight now rests on the vehicle, not on the connection.

The Strain Guard Advantage

I have a Surge Supressor.

“I already have a surge protector.”
Worth having — but those devices watch the electricity. They don’t watch the mechanics. A perfectly clean 120 volts through a loose contact still makes heat, and the monitor has nothing to report, because nothing is wrong with the power.
A portable unit sits at the pedestal, so your cord and inlet are downstream of it. A hardwired unit sits inside the coach, so the inlet is upstream of it. Either way, the connection itself is the part nothing is looking at.
An EMS watches the power coming in. Strain Guard supports the connection that power comes through.

Carries the load

A 50-amp cord puts about eight pounds of dead weight on the connector. Strain Guard is designed to carry it instead.

Nothing wired in

Passive and mechanical. No electronics, no batteries, no added electrical connection, no new failure point.

Supports the bend

The cable is supported behind the connector rather than hanging off it, so the jacket isn’t working against a hard bend every time you park.

Works with what you own

No proprietary inlet, no new cord, no installation. It fits the rig and the cable already in your bay.
